Background

Eneco is a leading energy company in Europe and a key player in the energy transition offering smart, sustainable, and affordable energy solutions to its customers. Eneco eMobility is the company's subsidiary focused on electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. The company offers a comprehensive range of charging services, including the installation, hosting, and maintenance of EV charging points. Eneco eMobility’s mission is to make e-mobility charging easy, sustainable, smart and personal.  

Challenge

As renewable energy production continues to increase and energy prices soar, EV drivers are requiring EV service providers like Eneco to help them lower the charging costs and better integrate renewable energy sources. Currently, more than 60 % of EV drivers who can charge their vehicles at home have already installed solar panels on their rooftops. In addition to that, Eneco’s distribution partners are recognizing this trend and asking for solutions on behalf of the EV drivers they serve. To meet these demands, Eneco eMobility needed a world-class smart charging service that prioritizes the interests of EV drivers while leveraging the strengths of Eneco Group in supplying and balancing energy.

Solution

Jedlix provided Eneco a comprehensive e-mobility smart charging platform that included a branded smart charging app with a range of smart charging services such as off-peak, dynamic, solar charging, and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) integration with the Eneco Trading and Balancing department. This provided an ideal balance of serving the interests of the EV drivers while also helping Eneco as a supplier to reduce its energy procurement and balancing costs. The extra revenues generated from this service are now shared with Eneco users (who have eligible energy contracts) through the smart charging app in the form of additional cash rewards.

Results

Since implementing the Jedlix platform in 2019, Eneco eMobility has seen significant improvements, including an average reduction of up to 400 Euros in charging costs for its EV drivers customers and a 50% reduction in energy and procurement costs. The platform integrates CPO and connected car services as well as VPP. All within a single branded app and smart charging platform that serves the needs of the e-mobility, energy supply and trading businesses.
